Methodology: how we discover and verify tools
AI Tools Directory is an automated directory. Every day a GitHub Actions job queries public sources, verifies candidates and publishes only those that pass every check.
Sources
- GitHub Search API: repositories of AI applications (not libraries, datasets or collections).
- Hugging Face Spaces: running applications; standalone models and datasets are excluded.
- Curated list of official websites: commercial tools verified against their official site.
- Openly licensed public lists and authorized RSS/Atom feeds, used only as candidate sources.
Verification
- Identifiable source and a valid, reachable https URL.
- Textual evidence that the tool uses artificial intelligence.
- Enough description and evidence that it is a usable application (not a library or a standalone model).
- On GitHub: README present, repository not archived, recent activity.
- Categories and platforms are assigned only with evidence from the source (text, release binaries, store links).
- Duplicate detection by canonical URL, identifiers and name.
If critical information is missing, the tool is not published. Unknown data is shown as "Not verified": we never assume a tool is free, supports an OS or works offline.
Translation
Descriptions are machine-translated with Argos Translate, an open source translator with no paid services. Translations are labeled as automatic; if one fails quality checks, the original text is shown.
New, updated and trending
- New: added to the directory in the last 14 days.
- Recently active: latest verified activity at the source (commits, releases, Space updates) or changes detected between runs.
- Trending: growth in GitHub stars or Hugging Face likes, computed from our own history (at least 7 days). Not equivalent to user counts and never compared with commercial tools.
What we don't do
We never install or run discovered software, publish subjective ratings, or scrape in ways that bypass blocks or limits.
Last run: Nov 1, 2026 · discovered: 297 · admitted: 30 · rejected: 99.
